Visit Ocracoke materials say the weekend includes a historically accurate pirate encampment and a reenactment of Blackbeard last battle, plus interactive living history exhibits, sea chanteys, music and a shopping marketplace of seafaring arts and wares. The event culminates when pirate and militia crews march to Springer Point to honor those killed in the last battle with a eulogy, hymns and a final cannon salute.
Ocracoke is part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore and is reachable by ferry from Hatteras. The Outer Banks pitch for the Halloween weekend pairs the jamboree with nearby national park stops, including Cape Hatteras Light Station and Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills.
Dare County remains the primary governing authority for unincorporated Outer Banks areas including Hatteras Island communities that feed the ferry link to Ocracoke. Festival organizers are billing the two-day jamboree as a living-history alternative to standard haunted-house Halloween programming on the Outer Banks.
