Dare County Parks & Recreation to Host Family Fun in the Park Block Party on Friday, July 19, 2024

Dare County, NC – Residents, visitors, and property owners of Dare County are cordially invited to the first-ever Family Fun in the Park Block Party, hosted by the Dare County Parks & Recreation Department. The community event is set to take place along Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Block Party Details

The Fun in the Park Block Party is a free event that promises to be jam-packed with exciting activities for the whole family. Prepare to enjoy an old-fashioned cookout, exhilarating water slide, challenging games, engaging scavenger hunts, and interactive work vehicle displays, among others. The event will start at the Veterans Drive entrance to Family Recreation Park, where attendees will receive a map to guide them throughout the block party. This map can also serve as your ticket to winning several exciting prizes when stamped at each stop and returned upon completion.

Fun Activities for the Family

The block party aims to create a space for families to bond, reconnect, and have fun. Some of the planned activities include:

  • Hotdogs and hamburgers available at the Dare County Parks & Recreation Family Recreation Park concession stand
  • Grandparents vs. grandkids cornhole competitions at the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center
  • Scavenger hunts throughout the Outer Banks Arboretum & Teaching Garden and Aviation Park
  • Different games on the lawn featuring a water slide
  • Informational booths spotlighting various Dare County departments.

Everyone in the community, regardless of age, is invited to take part in these activities. It’s a great way to spend quality time with family, learn new things, meet community members, and overall enjoy a rewarding experience without spending a single penny.

Additional Information

All attendees are encouraged to park their vehicles at First Flight Elementary School, located at 107 Veterans Drive in Kill Devil Hills. The parking lot at Family Recreation Park will be reserved for emergency services vehicle displays and pedestrians.
