Exciting Times Ahead in Dare County: Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation

Hey there, Outer Banks residents! Get ready to mark your calendars for a fun-filled day this coming Saturday, September 28, 2024. The Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation, organized by the Dare County Radio Control Flyers, is happening, and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic event for people of all ages! This is the fourth year for this popular festival, and it promises to provide an awesome opportunity to dive into the world of model aviation.

What’s the Buzz About the Event?

From first-timers to seasoned enthusiasts, everyone can join in on the excitement. The festival will offer locals a unique chance to soar through the skies, all under the expert guidance of the club’s friendly instructor pilots. If you’ve ever had a desire to fly a radio control aircraft, now’s your chance! This hands-on experience is not only fun but also an incredible way to learn about a hobby that has captivated many.

What’s Cooking?

Feeling hungry? Don’t worry, the Dare County Radio Control Flyers have got you covered! All attendees will be treated to a delicious lunch, including hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and refreshing soft drinks. It’s the perfect way to fuel up before you hit the skies!

Giving Back to the Community

But that’s not all! In the spirit of giving back, the festival aims to support the community by requesting at least one non-perishable food item or a tax-deductible cash donation per attendee for admission. All collections will go directly to the Beach Food Pantry, helping those in need in our area. So, you can enjoy a day of fun while also doing something good for your neighbors.

The Exciting Raffle Prizes

As the day winds down, stick around for the exciting raffle! The club will randomly select three lucky participants from non-club members who have taken a spin flying with an instructor. The grand prize winner will walk away with a ready-to-fly airplane along with both club and AMA membership. The two runners-up will also receive a ready-to-fly airplane plus an AMA membership—totally worth it, especially since the combined value of these prizes is over $1,194!

But wait, there’s more! A second raffle featuring two electric-powered planes and one-year paid AMA memberships will also be held, valued at over $628. Tickets for this second raffle will be available for purchase at the event, priced at $10 each or three for $20. What a great deal!

Stay Updated

Weather in the Outer Banks can be unpredictable, so if there are high winds or poor flying conditions, the event might be rescheduled on short notice. To stay in the loop, keep an eye on updates posted on the club’s website and their Facebook page.
