Jonathan Adler Unveils Design for Edgecamp Pamlico Station in Outer Banks

American potter, designer, and author Jonathan Adler has unveiled his newest masterpiece, a hotel named Edgecamp Pamlico Station, set to open in June 2024. Located in the Outer Banks, specifically on Hatteras Island, North Carolina, this 14-suite hotel promises to offer its guests an unforgettable experience unmatched by anything else in the area.

“A Reflection of the Outer Banks’ Landscape”

“The first time I visited Pamlico Station, I was in awe of how expansive the landscape is,” Adler shares. Intrigued by the vastness of the landscape, he drew his inspiration from Mother Nature herself. Subsequently, the design of the property is a meticulous representation of the stunning locale it sits in. The hotel is adjacent to one of the largest preserved parcels of the Outer Banks’ shoreline rendering a vibe that pays homage to the locale itself.

While the Adler’s keen attention to detail is evident through his astute utilization of color schemes reflecting the blue sky, yellow sun, and white clouds, he also factored in mohair, bouclé, brass and black metals to highlight the area’s popular kite-fishing community.

“Inspired by Glamorous Waterfront Locales”

Besides the local landscape, Adler took inspiration from sophisticated waterfront spots like the French and Italian Rivieras. By incorporating a rustic yet polished look with rattan and lacquer, the hotel echoes the aesthetics of the 1950s and 60s. The designer even substituted the closet doors with curtains patterned after vintage Hawaiian-shirt prints, adding a thematic touch to the suites.

All furnishings and decor within the suites are from Adler’s own collection, complemented by custom-designed pieces exclusively made for Pamlico Station. Among these unique pieces are custom Peruvian flatweave tapestries, ceramic-tile art, and artwork from Slim Aarons, Lord Bodner, and C. Jeré.

Bridging the Gap between Hotel Rooms and House Rentals

Adler’s vision for Edgecamp Pamlico Station also aimed to offer guests the best of both worlds—for the hotel to combine the ample space of house rentals with the amenities of hotel rooms. Therefore, each room, priced from $475 per night, is suite-sized and equipped with a bedroom, living room, dining area, and a fully furnished kitchen. Guests can enjoy the luxury of a personal chef who prepares meals on demand, thanks to the concierge’s services.

“The rooms feel luxurious, but they’re approachable and inviting. You’ll be as comfortable staying there for two weeks as you would be for two nights,” Adler opines.

A Complete Vacation Experience

Edgecamp Pamlico Station offers not just comfort but an array of recreational activities. Through the hotel’s concierge, guests can embark on surfing, deep-sea fishing, kitesurfing, and dune-buggy adventures, among others. They can rent boats, jet-skis, and bicycles to explore the scenic surroundings at their own pace.

The hotel’s Wellness Center is equipped with saunas, a hot tub, cold plunges, yoga, and fitness classes. Guests can also bring the wellness experience into their suites, thanks to the inclusion of a Wellness Basket comprising a yoga mat, yoga blocks, foam roller, and resistance bands in each suite. In-room massages can also be booked.

Starting next year, the Edgecamp Sporting Club will additionally provide guests as well as local club members with waterfront dining, pool access, and a kiteboarding membership. This aligns perfectly with Adler’s design philosophy that seamlessly blends outdoor activities with relaxation.
