First-ever Wawa Store to Open in North Carolina’s Outer Banks

Kill Devil Hills Set for Wawa’s Grand Opening

Wawa, the Pennsylvania-based convenience store, and gas chain has announced the opening of its first-ever store in North Carolina. The new store will be located in Kill Devil Hills and is set for a grand opening on May 16, according to a company spokesperson.

Located at 1900 Croatan Highway near Harris Teeter, the Outer Banks store is just the first of several Wawa locations planned for the Old North State. Other North Carolina locals like Wilson, Rocky Mount, and Elizabeth City will see Wawa stores opening later this year.

Massive Expansion Plans in North Carolina

According to Kim Dowgielewicz, Wawa’s Director of Store Operations, the company is looking forward to serving their new North Carolina friends and neighbors. They are eager to provide the community with their signature offerings of fresh food and beverages, in addition to convenience.

The popular chain has drawn up ambitious plans to open 80 stores across North Carolina over the next decade. This massive expansion drive will see Wawa investing about $7 million into the state’s economy, employing about 140 contractors, and creating 2,800 new jobs when all the stores are running.

Impact on Outer Banks

The opening of the Wawa store in Outer Banks will not only mean easy access to the popular chain’s wide variety of convenience items, but will also provide a significant boost to the local economy. The new jobs created directly by the store, as well as those in construction and related industries, will certainly be a welcome addition to Kill Devil Hills.

In addition, the local community will be able to enjoy the chain’s unique offerings, ranging from their famous hoagies to caffeine kicks from their coffee counter. Wawa comes as a choice addition to the Outer Banks’ restaurant scene, ready to serve guests who come to the area for the expected Taste of the Beach event.
