Expansion of Manteo Primary Care Clinic Commences in OBX
MANTEO, N.C. – Construction has commenced as Outer Banks Health gears up to expand its primary care clinic in Manteo. The current project will facilitate the growth of the healthcare services, doubling the size of the family medicine practice located on Amanda Street.
Crews Hard at Work
The existing building which has served the community since 1974 is seeing a new lease of life as crews actively work on the site. The dedicated team is fully engaged, prepping the adjacent area to create space for the expansive facility. The development would also remodel the entrance, directing it towards the highway.
More Providers, Better Services
The expansion plan would pave the way for an enlarged facility, allowing the addition of at least two more medical providers. The incorporation of a telehealth room for behavioral assessments and a wellness office is also part of the elaborate design. “We’re going to grow. We have three physicians there right now. So that extra space allows us to add more practitioners into the practice for our patients.” explained Lynne Miles, regional administrator for operations at Outer Banks Health.
Welcome Development for Manteo Residents
Local residents have rallied behind the expansion, expressing optimism about the forthcoming boost in health services. Anxiety hit the local populace in 2022 when a primary care clinic folded operations, leaving thousands to explore other options. Notably, this project follows the successful opening of Manteo Community Health Center in the previous year and programs aiming to recruit more medical professionals to Outer Banks.
Need for More Doctors
Despite the recent recruitments and expansion efforts, Outer Banks Health struggles with a larger patient waitlist for primary care, even after onboarding six new providers in the past year. They currently serve over 16,000 patients across their five primary care practices. “We definitely want you to get on that waitlist now so that when you have that need for care, be it six months from now, a year from now that you have an established relationship with a provider that’s there and able to take care of you” stressed Miles.
Awaited Transformation
The new health facility is expected to open within phases, aiming for a comprehensive completion in the summer of 2025. Patients and residents are hoping for a transformation in the healthcare landscape with this development.
