Robert Silvio Soluri: Honoring a Life Well-Lived in Kitty Hawk, NC
Kitty Hawk, NC – The community is mourning the unexpected passing of Robert Silvio Soluri, affectionately known as Bob, who left this world peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the impressive age of 90. He passed away in the family home that he personally designed and built, a testament to his remarkable skills in construction and design.
A Life Rich in Heritage and Accomplishments
Bob’s journey began in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, where he was born. At just six years old, his family relocated to the bustling city of Washington, DC. Growing up in a family rooted in craftsmanship, his father, a master brick mason, was known as “The Artist” amongst his peers, contributing to iconic structures such as the Pentagon and the White House. This early exposure to building and construction naturally influenced Bob’s skills and passions.
In high school, Bob attended Woodrow Wilson High School in DC, demonstrating a sharp intellect and a keen interest in engineering. He went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Catholic University, paving the way for a distinguished career working for the Navy Department for over three decades. His dedication and hard work didn’t go unnoticed, earning him the coveted Navy Distinguished Civil Service Award.
A New Chapter: Real Estate and Community Involvement
After retiring from the Navy, Bob transitioned into the world of real estate, where he found a new passion working with Shannon and Luchs and later with Long and Foster in the DC area. His love for the community and keen eye for properties made him an invaluable resource in helping people find their dream homes.
Outside of his professional life, Bob was known for his zest for life and physical fitness. An avid athlete, he enjoyed biking, swimming, and tennis, proving that he would rather participate in activities than merely watch from the sidelines. His ability to build and fix almost anything, whether it be wood, bricks, or stone, made him a go-to person for friends and family needing a helping hand.
Family and Community: The Heart of Bob’s Life
Sadly, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Laura Maria, and his brother, John Gino. However, he leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Jane; son, Robert Francis; grandchildren: Francesca Lauran, Robert Thomas, and Joseph Francis; along with countless cherished nieces and nephews. In recent years, he embraced volunteering with Meals on Wheels, sharing warmth and kindness with those in need alongside his wife.
Bob’s passion for music and community spirit was evident as he regularly attended rehearsals and concerts of the Outer Banks Chorus, even if he preferred to watch rather than sing. His joyful participation in the “exercise class,” affectionately dubbed Care Givers Day Out, frequently brought laughter and smiles to those around him, often thanks to his spontaneous singing.
Honoring Bob’s Memory
A Funeral Service of the Word with Communion is scheduled at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, NC, on October 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall, inviting all who knew and loved Bob to share memories and celebrate his life.
Additionally, a burial and commemoration of Robert’s cremains will take place on October 13, 2025, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland, at 12 noon. Friends and family in the DC area are invited to gather at the main office by 11:45 a.m. before proceeding to the gravesite, followed by a luncheon in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition or the Outer Banks Chorus, organizations that align with Bob’s community-oriented spirit and love for helping others.
As we remember and honor the legacy of Robert Silvio Soluri, let us all be inspired by his incredible life, dedication to family, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. May he rest in peace.
