SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Ohio made its long trip west worth it Saturday night, building a 41-0 lead before Sacramento State scored and beating the Hornets 48-7 in a Mid-American Conference game.

The Bobcats (5-2, 3-0 MAC) have now won four in a row. Sacramento State (1-6, 0-4) has dropped five straight and played the night in front of its homecoming crowd.

Junior running back Duncan Brune set the tone on the opening drive with a 3-yard scoring run and added a 14-yarder just before halftime, finishing with 55 yards on 12 carries. Redshirt freshman Irving Brown was the most efficient runner on the field, piling up 87 yards on just eight attempts and capping the scoring with his first career touchdown from 2 yards out after a 50-yard burst set it up.

Quarterback Nick Poulos, playing near where he grew up, completed 11 of 14 throws for 165 yards. His biggest strike came early in the third quarter, a 67-yard catch-and-run by Preston Bowman that pushed the margin to 34-0 and stands as the longest touchdown pass of Poulos's career. Victor Rosa and freshman quarterback Levi Davis also ran for scores, and kicker Will Hryszko connected from a career-long 50 yards plus 37.

The Ohio defense smothered the Hornets for three quarters. Cornerback Barry Dillon picked off a pass, and linebacker Michael Molnar recorded a sack. Sacramento State avoided the shutout early in the fourth on a 38-yard scoring pass from Brian Salazar Jr. to Kenyon Shabazz.

Ohio rolled up 469 total yards and 30 first downs. The Bobcats host Eastern Michigan next Saturday, while Sacramento State travels to Ball State.
